THE MIRACULOUS MANDARIN
Saito Kinen Festival, 2011
As part of Saito Kinen Festival in Matsumoto,Japan, this scenography and stage design for an opera production was designed by Dorell.Ghotmeh.Tane Architects team. The stages for ‘Bluebeard’s Castle’ and ‘The Miraculous Mandarin’ composed by Béla Bartók, conducted by Maestro Seiji Ozawa, were designed to be performed consecutively in one evening, requiring it to be assembled and disassembled in fifteen minutes.
The stage for Miraculous Mandarin consists of a moving platform 15m wide x 15m deep, with 600m2 of fabric surface structure suspended by 680 fixing points.
The two pieces were performed in National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Shanghai Grand Theatre and Matsumoto Performing Arts Centre in Japan, over 12 performances in 2011 and 2012.
